Innoflame Oy: Leading the Way in VSME Reporting

Innoflame Stands Out as a Pioneer in VSME Sustainability Reporting

esgResilience has helped Innoflame Oy, a company specializing in brand products, stakeholder gifts, and point rewards, to implement one of Finland’s first sustainability reports in accordance with the VSME standard. The project, led by Sustainability Manager Mika Henttonen, takes the company’s sustainability communication to a new level.

Innoflame Oy is among the first to adopt the EU’s new voluntary VSME standard (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs). The collaboration with esgResilience was a natural fit as the company sought to strengthen its sustainability efforts through professional and well structured reporting.

Sustainability Manager Shaping the Industry

Mika Henttonen, Innoflame’s Sustainability Manager, is a seasoned expert with 14 years of experience in the sector and a strong personal interest in corporate responsibility. Having worked at Innoflame for over a year, Henttonen is also deepening his expertise through a Master-level program focused on sustainable business development. His thesis centres on building Innoflame’s sustainability strategy.

Henttonen’s studies focus on integrating sustainability into business operations and exploring opportunities created by the green transition. His core modules include corporate responsibility in a changing business environment, responsible leadership, and sustainability communication and reporting. These topics are directly linked to Innoflame’s own development, making the company a key learning environment for him.

“This master’s program meets the growing need in business to consider environmental and social impacts. I’m learning strategies and practical tools that help companies genuinely promote sustainability,” Henttonen explains.

Regarding his personal motivation, he continues: “My interest broadly covers the entire field of corporate responsibility – environmental and social sustainability as well as good governance. Sustainability work is about developing not only our own company but also the entire industry towards a more sustainable future”

Sustainability at Innoflame Means Concrete Action

Innoflame is a forerunner in sustainable business practices within its field. The company’s unique Print-On-Demand concept ensures that products are only produced as needed, avoiding unnecessary stock. Since 2020, the company has conducted annual carbon footprint calculations and follows an ISO 14001-certified environmental management system.

Alongside its new VSME sustainability report, Innoflame has also committed to esgResilience’s Climate Commitment Level 2, covering emissions measurement, reporting, and reduction. Furthermore, the company has developed a Supplier Code of Conduct and established a comprehensive Environmental Policy and Program to guide its operations.

A Competitive Edge Through Sustainability – esgResilience and Innoflame Set the Example

esgResilience’s reporting platform, designed for SMEs, makes sustainability work accessible to all – even without prior experience in ESG and/or emissions accounting. The collaboration between Innoflame and esgResilience in producing the VSME report has been efficient and delivered concrete results quickly. The reporting process ran smoothly using the esgResilience system, which guided the Innoflame team logically through the different sustainability categories and ensured a clearly structured report for the company.

“Innoflame is a great example of a forward-looking company that wants to communicate its sustainability work transparently and based on facts. Only a few months after the release of the VSME standard, Innoflame had already published its first report with our service. It’s been a pleasure to work with motivated, committed clients who are truly investing in sustainability,” comments Marja Honkaniemi from the esgResilience team.

“VSME reporting has been an important step forward for us. It’s a concrete tool that helps identify areas for development and measure our progress,” Henttonen highlights. “The report is essential for our own operations, but equally important for our clients. Many of them are increasingly interested in the sustainability of their value chain – and now we can offer them more transparent insights into our performance.”

Looking Ahead – Innoflame’s Proactive Approach to Sustainability

Although current sustainability reporting regulations do not yet apply to Innoflame, the company is already preparing for the future. In 2024, Innoflame completed a double materiality assessment aligned with the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and naturally followed that with VSME reporting in collaboration with esgResilience.

“We believe that being a sustainability leader is not only the right thing to do – it’s also smart business. The VSME report gives us and our clients a clear picture of where we stand today and where we want to go,” concludes Mika Henttonen, Head of Sustainability at Innoflame.
