Leinolat Group’s VSME Milestone in Metal Industry

Making Sustainability Visible: The First VSME Report in the Metal Industry Was Prepared in Vaasa

Leinolat Group, based in the Vaasa region, has taken a pioneering step in the Finnish metal industry by publishing the country’s first ESG report aligned with the VSME standard. This family-owned group of companies delivers high-quality products and high-end industrial solutions for the energy, marine, oil and gas, and HVAC industries, with over 85% of its production exported globally.

Leinolat Group and its subsidiaries are committed to accelerating the sustainability transition by developing sustainable solutions for the industry together with their customers and suppliers. Sustainability has long been part of the group’s daily operations, but now it has been made visible.

Sustainability Work Materialised in Reporting

Sustainability Report published in May evaluates Leinolat Group’s performance across four ESG dimensions:

  • Climate impact
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Social responsibility
  • Good governance

The EU’s Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME), provided a clear framework that enabled the group to structure its sustainability work and communicate it both internally and externally. The preparation of the report was a group-wide effort involving all subsidiaries:T-DRILL, Leimec Oy, Kilkanen Oy, Uwira Oy, and Bobi.com.

“It was great to get a spectacular end result in hand – a concrete proof of our joint commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility. Our report has received a lot of positive attention and feedback.”
— Samuli Kuusisto, Sales Director

“Integrating sustainability into the core of our business also enables us to better support our customers in achieving their own sustainability goals.”
— Keimo Kalliosaari, CEO

Structure and Tools Provided by esgResilience

Leinolat Group leveraged the esgResilience platform throughout the reporting process. Tailored for SMEs, the service helped the group carry out emission calculations and report other key ESG indicators in alignment with the VSME standard.

With esgResilience, the group was able to:

  • Calculate Scope 1–3 GHG emissionsin line with the GHG Protocol
  • Map and assess other material sustainability factors
  • Automatically compile a report that meets the VSME standard
  • Use analytics and benchmarking data to guide internal development

“esgResilience provided us with a clear and efficient way to map essential sustainability themes and communicate them in a structured manner. Reporting didn’t remain an isolated project – it now supports our continuous development.

For us, responsibility isn’t just about meeting legal requirements and external expectations, but about embedding it into every aspect of our operations. We believe that the companies who invest in responsible actions today will be the ones who succeed tomorrow.”
— Leinolat Group ESG Team

Responsibility as Ongoing Commitment

Leinolat Group’s sustainability work goes far beyond reporting. Key examples from their ongoing ESG efforts include:

  • 100% recycling rate in operations
  • Continuous promotion of employee well-being and equality
  • Annual measurement and disclosure of Scope 1–3 emissions
  • T-DRILL Oy’s Great Place to Work certification in 2025

Looking ahead, the group plans to set emission reduction targets and develop a supporting roadmap to support company’s sustainable growth in the future.

Setting a Standard for the Metal Industry

Leinolat Group’s achievement demonstrates how SME’s in traditional manufacturing business can turn sustainability into a strategic competitive advantage. Through collaboration and structured action, responsibility becomes a shared effort — not just within individual companies, but across the entire group.
