Founded in 1989, Gronlund is a family-run company based in Pirkanmaa, Finland, specializing in cleaning and support services. Over the past 35+ years, quality service alongside sustainability and green values have gone hand in hand for Gronlund. This year, the company took its commitment to responsibility even further by delivering its very first ESG report – a move driven by the desire to make its sustainability efforts more measurable and transparent. For that, it needed a partner who speaks the same language as SMEs and understands their unique needs.
Smooth reporting without the headache
The solution came in the form of esgResilience, which offered a clear, easy-to-read reporting platform, along with support and guidance throughout the process.
“From the very first introduction, esgResilience seemed like the perfect fit for our needs. The report meets the requirements of the VSME standard, and the instructions for using the tool were practical and easy to follow – even for a first-time reporter”, says Gronlund’s CEO, Tiina Holopainen.

The end result was a fully VSME-compliant ESG report – a concrete leap forward toward even more transparent and responsible business practices.
A report that makes the work visible
At Gronlund, responsibility isn’t just a buzzword in strategy papers – it’s present in every swipe of the mop and every workday, from routine cleaning tasks to key business decisions.
Sustainability reporting has not only made this work visible but also provided a clear framework and measurable goals for it. Through the reporting process, Gronlund has committed to the tracking and reporting of Scope 1-3 emissions as well as advancing emissions reduction initiatives – now in a transparent, measurable way.
As Tiina Holopainen puts it: “Sustainability became a more tangible part of our everyday work, and having measurable results makes it easier to set concrete goals for the future. The reporting process also inspired our employees to actively contribute ideas on how to achieve the emission reduction goals and broader sustainability targets in the coming years. It would benefit every SME to make their sustainability practices transparent to their stakeholders. Each of us can play a small part in creating a cleaner world to live and do business in.”

Gronlund invests in personnel well-being and equality. Occupational health services, ergonomics, and flexible working hours support employee endurance, while staff are actively involved in development and rewarded for good performance. The company’s eNPS is 42 – significantly higher than the industry benchmark. Gronlund also supports employees with immigrant backgrounds, promotes equality, and upholds zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment through clear and inclusive communication.
